Gisella Marinuzzi is an international lawyer, Associate Director of The Schweitzer Institute, and a researcher working at the intersection of law, environmental ethics, and complex systems analysis.
Proficient in five languages and classically trained as a pianist, her legal career has spanned practice in Italy, Wall Street, and the United Kingdom. She brings an international perspective to questions of institutional design, public policy, and the practical operation of law across different systems.
At the Schweitzer Institute, Gisella leads cross-disciplinary research connecting theoretical insight with practical application in environmental stewardship, systems thinking, and ethical governance. A central focus of her current work is animal welfare governance — examining structural failures in UK policy and developing proposals for a Governmental Animal Protection Commission to strengthen oversight, coordination, and accountability.
She also co-edits two academic journals, OXQ: The Oxford Quarterly Journal of Symmetry & Asymmetry and The Schweitzer Institute Journal, and leads programmes linking education, ethics, and volunteerism. Her work is guided by a belief that serious scholarship should expand horizons, generate new ideas, and contribute to more thoughtful and humane public life.
